Abstract
A textual operant is a vocal or sub-vocal response controlled by non-auditory verbal stimuli. Correct textual behavior occurs when there is a point to point correspondence between textual stimuli and textual behavior. But accurate reading is only one aspect of "mastery". We would not and should not be satisfied with the textual performance of a reader that is so slow that they cannot understand what they are reading. Therefore a quantitative dimensional (time) component is necessary, and this is what is achieved in frequency building (fluency). Fluent reading happens when the textual is emitted effortlessly, fast and accurate. 14,9 % of Norwegian kids has poor reading skills. In the European Union the number is 20 %. This calls for action. Tempolex is a computer program which aims to establish or improve reading skills. National Reading Panel (2000) says practicing fluency has a positive impact on children’s decoding, word recognition, silent-reading comprehension, and overall reading achievement. Tempolex will be presented to the audience.
